Description

The Chatham County Police Department is searching for a highly experienced Administrative Assistant who can provide exceptional support to the Police Chief. We encourage you to apply if you meet the minimum qualifications and are ready to take on this exciting opportunity.

Examples of Duties

  • Serves as a liaison to the public, other agencies, command staff, other department heads, and elected officials.
  • Performs assigned duties as required in the absence of the Police Chief.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of Chatham County Police Department staff in implementing the expressed goals, policies, and directives of the Police Chief.
  • Maintains and reports payroll and timekeeping records for more than ninety (90) employees.
  • Oversees public information operations within the Police Department.
  • Maintains a high level of awareness of all changes within both legislation, court decisions, and standard operating procedures for law enforcement agencies nationwide.
  • Participates in various aspects of personnel administration within the Department, including hiring, termination, grievance procedures, and coordinating employee training.
  • Serves as a spokesperson for the Police Department when needed.
  • Provides information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in selected positions.
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and others informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
  • Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, and
  • At least ten (10) years of law enforcement experience, including at least five (5) years of administrative or supervisory management experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Selected candidates may be required to complete keyboarding and clerical testing during the interview process.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.

In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
