Position Overview

Booksellers are the heart of The Book Deal, shaping the customer experience and ensuring our store remains an engaging and welcoming space. We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about books, thrive in customer service, and take pride in creating an enjoyable shopping experience.

Primary Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers.
  • Provide friendly, patient, and solution-oriented assistance with customer inquiries (e.g., book recommendations, inventory searches).
  • Build positive relationships with customers, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated.
  • Efficiently and accurately process sales, returns, and exchanges.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized store environment.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support store operations.

Merchandising & Inventory

  • Receive, shelve, and organize inventory.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining visually appealing book displays.
  • Support annual inventory processes and general store organization.

Product Knowledge & Promotions

  • Stay informed about in-store promotions and marketing initiatives.
  • Keep up with book industry trends and new titles to enhance customer recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for books and a passion for fostering a love of reading.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also thriving in a team setting.
  • Adaptability and a proactive mindset to meet changing business needs.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn our Point of Sale system (Bookmanager) and inventory database (training provided).
  • Proficient typing skills (40+ wpm).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.

Additional Information

  • Job Type : Part-time
  • Starting Pay : $14–$16 per hour, based on experience, with opportunities for raises.
  • Shifts : 2–4 days per week (9:30 AM – 6:15 PM), including weekends.
