The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Environmental Science, De Anza College.

General Responsibilities:


Under the direction of the Dean, Biological, Health, and Environmental Sciences Division instruct community college Environmental Science courses to a diverse student population at a college committed to student equity. The instructor will be expected to teach in two or more topic areas. Course topic areas are typical of lower division undergraduate work in environmental sciences. Environmental sciences subjects include introductory environmental science/studies lab and lecture courses including environmental biology, conservation biology, biodiversity, field studies, pollution prevention, sustainability and energy management.


Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on district and college committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.


Secondary duties include activities such as student recruitment and advising; acting as liaison between the college and professional and/or educational organizations, government agencies, and business and community advisory groups; and overseeing department programs.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff
  2. Master's degree in Environmental Science, any Biological Science or closely related discipline (e.g. Ecology, Natural Resource Management) OR Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. College-level instructional experience in the area of expertise.
  2. Experience teaching in two or more topic areas in environmental science such as introductory environmental science courses, environmental biology, conservation biology, biodiversity, pollution prevention and sustainability
  3. Experience teaching environmental science topic areas in lecture, field and hands on lab courses.
  4. Experience in integrating instructional technology in a variety of formats, including face to face, hybrid and online.
  5. Experience and/or commitment to working with a diverse division/team on implementing culturally inclusive practices and participating in dialogues on equity in education.
  6. Experience participating in shared governance committees on campus such as academic senate, curriculum committee etc.
  7. Experience on community-based organizations related to environmental justice.

HIRING RANGE: $71,934.90 - $133,543.60 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
