Join our Environmental Resource Permit Bureau Here's your opportunity to assist our Environmental Section by conducting technical and administrative work related to regulatory requirements and compliance matters. You will have the chance to routinely interact with consultants, land owners, and citizen groups, answering questions about wetlands, water resources, permitting, compliance and the District's Regulatory Division. This position is essential to the Environmental Section to continue to meet metrics and regulatory time frames.

Compensation: $46,737.60 - $55,000.00 The
starting salary ranges are included for the Environmental Scientist profile which reflects the
minimum to 24.5% of the respective pay grades. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.
Essential Functions - Review of Formal Determination of Wetlands and other Surface Waters Petition applications and forensic location of boundaries in compliance and enforcement files.
- Identify plants, field identification of hydric soils and identify accurate biological indicators of hydrologic conditions (seasonal high and normal pool levels).
- Review aerials and discern different land use/ecological communities and anthropogenic changes in review aerial imagery.
- Read and interpret Rule criteria to have a clear understanding when reviewing environmental resource permit applications and compiling supporting information and data for compliance enforcement files.
- Routinely interact with consultants, land owners, and citizen groups to answer questions regarding wetlands, water resources, permitting, compliance, and the District's Regulatory Division.

Working Environmental Conditions: Inside, Outside, Hiking, Bites, Remote, Measuring, & Wading. Travel in the field and to other District offices is required.

Required Credentials For Staff Environmental Scientist - Bachelors degree (or higher) in Environmental Science or related field
- Two (2) years experience in wetlands ecology or related environmental science experience
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Credentials For Staff Environmental Scientist - Masters degree or Ph.D
- Certified Professional Soil Scientist
- Professional Wetland Scientist
- Experience and/or academic work in agricultural sciences, surface water management, geology, hydrology, chemistry, or engineering

Additional Details This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, out of the Tampa, FL office, however remote work may be available. This position is eligible for compensatory time for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week.
Travel Required Yes. Some travel, using District vehicle, within District's coverage area.
