CHIEF ENGINEER

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Chief Engineer to lead and grow an engineering department for a dynamic and rapidly expanding manufacturer of premium steel building systems. This company specializes in designing and manufacturing metal building solutions for industries such as agriculture, commercial, manufacturing, industrial, aviation, mini-storage, and retail!

The Chief Engineer will play a critical leadership role, overseeing engineering, drafting, and detailing teams while optimizing designs for quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior-level professional with deep expertise in pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) systems who is ready to build and lead an engineering office.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and provide leadership to the engineering, drafting, and detailing teams to produce high-quality permit, construction, and shop drawings.
• Review and seal permit drawings for customer submission to appropriate building authorities.
• Collaborate with the sales team to provide preliminary designs and structural specifications for bid submissions and coordinate design updates and modifications.
• Analyze project requirements and model/design metal building systems using software such as MBS, RISA, and AutoCAD.
• Optimize the design of structural members and connections for efficient fabrication and economy.
• Review and ensure compliance with building codes and standards (IBC, AISC, IAS, etc.).
• Size and design foundation systems for metal buildings or oversee outsourced engineering personnel responsible for this work.
• Visit construction sites as needed to address field concerns.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with active registration in one or more of the following states: GA, SC, NC, TN, AL, FL, VA, KY, WV, MD (or the ability to obtain licensure in these states).
• 10-15+ years of experience in pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) design and engineering.
• Proven ability to lead and supervise engineering and drafting teams, including coordinating with outsourced professionals.
• Strong judgment, decision-making skills, and a practical approach to solving engineering challenges.
• Proficiency in relevant design software such as MBS, RISA, and AutoCAD.

Additional Information

• Location: Ideally based on-site, though remote arrangements may be considered. Remote candidates will need to establish an office in a strategic location for future team growth.
